Ever dreamed of dancing and playing in a huge empty store?
During late Spring 2021, Magic Acorns worked with a small group of artists to create the In-Between Spaces family sessions in PRIMEYARC, Great Yarmouth – an ex-department store, now gallery and community space.
“It’s science…and magic…and art”
Using light, shadow, sound and movement, the space was transformed into a multi-sensory environment to welcome family “bubbles” to, as we emerged from the lockdown restrictions.
The family bubbles visited the In-Between Space one at a time, the children were all under 3 years old and some were young babies, born during lockdown.
Each In-Between Space session was unique, following the lead of the children, improvising with their play and finding the games that emerged in the In-Between Spaces.
The open-ended, improvisatory approach centred the processes of being and allowed for each family bubble to create their own unique response to the space.
As part of this special Arts Council-funded project, video artist Lewis Wickwar created artistic responses to the In-Between Space sessions.
