Co-creating playful, sensory experiences
Our Nest Residency took place over ten days in Autumn 2023, funded through our Arts Council England project.
bringing together artists and families in studio and seaside spaces
The Nest brought together 13 diverse artists, some of whom were early career or ‘nurtured’ artists including two bursary artists, alongside five ‘lead’ artists. The groups’ arts practices ranged from dance, visual art, videography, composition, electro-acoustic, audio-visual, instrumental and vocal practice.
The initial stages of The Nest residency brought together the lead and nurtured artists to tune into one another, to play and to develop interactive performance pieces.
After this development stage, children and their grown-ups were invited to join us for open-ended play and interaction.
Our unique approach makes extended time and space for children to play during our performances. Three events were developed: The Beach, Tiny Promenade, and The Sensory Space, and took place in our space, and on the beach.
The Nest EP explores how songs might grow from a more immersive early years process – songs pieced together from photographs, riffs and words jotted down during and after the devising process and workshops.
